We got like three hours of sleep and ended up meeting people on our layover even BEFORE getting to Austin. As soon as we got to the hotel we went to the adjacent Applebee’s to get food. We ended up getting margaritas and beer. We then jaunted downtown via the SXSW bus and got our minds blown.
The trade show was absolutely insanse. It’s in the Austin Convention Center which is comparable in size to the Qwest Convention Center in Seattle. Right as we were walking in the door the singer for Counting Crows walked by discussing a bunch of bands he had just checked out. We kinda did a double take… There was a booth for everything, and a cooler of free Miller Lite about every other booth. We got to witness a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robot battle controlled by Microsoft’s X-Box Kinect (see below).
From there we just wandered around downtown, tried to catch the Foo Fighters show (way too packed), had some amazing Tex-Mex pulled pork tacos and called it an early night.
